These two pieces of French fabric are what housewives used to sew their own tea towels or torchons. The fabric has the iconic red stripes, one with three stripes, the longer piece with four stripes.
All that’s needed is to sew a thin seam and voila, you’ll have several tea towels ready to do service in your kitchen. The first piece is the size of a tea towel and just needs seams on each of the short ends. The second piece is long enough for four large tea towels if you cut and sew along the short end. Or seam up both ends and use it as a long table runner for your dining room or outdoor table.
The fabric is a cotton linen blend that’s creamy in color and will soften and whiten with each wash. There are some brown specks woven into the fabric, which are completely normal and typical for this weave. There is one small spot where the weave is a bit off, using some thicker threads that have left a bump (see photo).
The fabric has a few spots from storage and needs a washing, which I will leave for the new owner.
