Lourdes souvenir wall plaque (France)

I love religious souvenirs, especially from Lourdes. It always makes me stop and think about who this person might have been, why they made the pilgrimage to Lourdes and brought back this particular souvenir.

I found this wood wall plaque at a flea market in Belgium during our most recent trip to Europe.

The front of the plaque has a statue of the Virgin Mary standing on a small pedestal. The statue is still solidly attached at the bottom but the top flips forward a little bit when tilted. A small brass plaque reads “Souvenir de N.D. de LOURDES.”

While the original hanging hardware is still attached to the back, it is no longer functional and someone long ago added a nail from which to hang this with a loop of thread.
