These types of old agricultural prize plaques are beautiful for many reasons – the patina is lovely, the border details are gorgeous, the typography is charming… and this particular one has two cows on it!
It’s a honorary prize award from 1988 of an agricultural show in the community of town of Audruicq, which is in the very northwestern part of France, near Calais and Dunkirk. The category is for calves (veaux).
The plaque is painted a beautiful cherry red with gold accents around the border and letters, which has worn off in some spots to show the silver metal through. It was made in the town of Le Mans (marked along the bottom) and has a hole in the top center for hanging.
