For some reason I was very attracted to plates with black and white scenes during my most recent trip to Europe. I found these four small plates at a market in France and loved that they depicted farmers' children in different months of the year. They're made by Digoin Sarreguemines and all bear the stamp on the back. The months represented are March (feeding chickens and chicks), June (playing by the river), September (harvesting apples), and October (harvesting grapes). The design in the center is black transferware, surrounded by a lovely wide basket weave border that's edges with hand painted blue pin stripes. These four plates are sold as a set. The plates all have some condition issues (chips, cracks, stains – please see photos) but would look lovely grouped on the wall or propped up in a hutch to show off their sweet country life scenes. This transferware pattern is so sweet with its pretty blue border and interspersed flowers. It's faïence from France and marked Céranord St. Amand with the swan logo. This listing is for all four (4) plates. Overall the set is in great shape for its age with just one plate that's a little more faded blue than the others and one that has some faint marks from knives cutting on the surface. So pretty to mix in with plain white ironstone or dinnerware! Still fully functional (as with all old dishes, hand-washing is highly recommended).
