enamelware salt & pepper (Belgium)
I picked up this very old (and relatively rare) enamelware salt & pepper cellar during my most recent trip to Europe.
Enamelware can be a bit tricky to date but given that this piece has rivets on the handle and the cup bases, it likely dates back to the late 1800s or very early 1900s.
It does have some chips, mostly where the handle connects to the cups but also some flea bites along the rim and base, all spots where you'd typically see these signs of use (please view photos for more details).
While there are some orange rust stains on the base (that will likely come off with more vigorous scrubbing), the interior of the two bowls are in excellent condition, making this piece fully functional as a salt and pepper cellar. Naturally, you could also use it as a jewelry catch-all in the bathroom or on your night stand, or use on your desk to corral paper clips and rubber bands.
SIZE: 5.25" overall length x 2.625" wide (cup diameter) x 4.5" overall height (2" cup height)

flag pole topper (France)
This antique French brass beauty once graced the top of a flag pole. Today it would make a beautiful addition to a Francophile’s collection!
The embossed brass has gained a beautiful patina with age. The RF (République Française) is still clearly visible on both sides. There are a few dents on the top portion and a hole where the metal got crunched a bit (could possibly be bent back into shape with some pliers).
SIZE: 9″ tall x 3.5″ wide x 1.375″ thick

art nouveau mirror (France)
Found at an antique market in France, this very old art nouveau hand mirror has all that I love about antiques: a gorgeous patina on the brass frame and fabulous aging on the beveled glass of the mirror.
While the glazing of the mirror has some tarnished and blackened areas, it's still a lovely piece that would look great on a dresser or hung on a wall (tie a little wire around the top screw on the back, and voilà, she's a wall mirror!) Made of pure brass, this mighty mirror weighs in at over a pound!
SIZE: 11.5" long x 5" wide; mirrored part measures nearly 4.5" x 3"

tiny mourning brooch (France)
I picked up this little French mourning brooch at an estate sale of a dear friend and artist who spent many summers in France trolling through various flea markets in search of small treasures to include in her collages.
These tiny mourning brooches were once worn to keep departed loved ones close at heart. This fellow would look lovely pinned to a mannequin, pressed into a wax candle, or turned into jewelry. Or open it up and insert your own photo or tiny memento.
The pin on the back is a bit bent but still fully functional. The crack that's visible on the right side of the gentleman's face is likely in the photo itself since I cannot feel any crack in the glass when I run my finger over it.
SIZE: 1.125" diameter

set of 6 postcards (France)
I picked up this set of six antique postcards at the estate sale of a dear friend and amazing artist who traveled to France each summer. She would pick up bits and bobs at various flea markets and incorporate them into her art.
These six postcards are all from her past trips and have a great combination of photography, handwriting and in some cases postage stamps. Wonderful to display as a group, use in your own art projects, or tuck in with a gift to your Francophile friends.

cutting board no. 3
If you love the French Nordic style and read Jeanne d’Arc Living magazine, I’m sure you’ve seen these old ceramic and porcelain cutting boards that are so popular and somewhat hard to find. I try to snap them up whenever they cross my path in Europe.
These are sometimes called onion boards but folks in Germany used them as breakfast plates for sandwiches. They look great displayed with wood cutting boards or ceramic drain plates and as a bonus are fully functional as a cheese board or cutting board!
This listing is for one (1) porcelain cutting board in the Meissen or Blue Onion pattern. I have three of these same boards – please see my other listings if you're interested in more than one.
This board has been well used, showing its age with a good amount of browning, some small chips (all on back, all browned with age) as well as cut marks and pitting on the surface of the board and crazing on the back – please see photos for details.
There is a blind mark in the form of an elongated triangle but I have not been able to find the name of the maker.

French brass floral (no. 5)
I picked up a number of antique French brass floral finials on my last trip to Europe.
It's quite hard to find a matched pair so I'm selling these two as a set. One is a bit shinier than the other with some blackened spots of tarnish. Both are still a fairly bright golden brass color that's matte in finish with some darkened areas here and there.
They're mirror images and made of thin embossed brass depicting flowers and curved leaves. The back has a metal hook where the rod would be inserted. In as-found condition (no cleaning has been done).
SIZE: each is approx. 6.75" long x 5" wide
