french container sale
I have been avidly following the French Market Goods Instagram feed as Liz from Komedal Road and her friend Kathryn from Petit & Olson shopped their way through France back in September, finding the most beautiful items and giving us sneak peeks.
Well, a little over a week ago, it was finally time for their container sale! Hubby had just come back from a business trip late the night before but I wasn’t shy about setting the alarm early – we were on the road by 6am! Battling dreary rain the entire 3.5-hour drive north, we arrived a little early and secured a spot second in line, yay!
Liz has two adjoining studio spaces and while the “purely French” side was closed until 10am, Liz graciously allowed us to walk around inside the “regular” part of the studio that was set up with a mix of French and American finds. Because they were not officially open yet, I was able to take some nice photos without shoppers – I was also able to fall in love with a gorgeous pine table that will soon be on its way to our home in Portland! (you can see its gorgeous curved legs in the center of the above photo)
I absolutely adore Liz’s style – her color palette is simple (red, white, and blue with a few touches of grey and brown) and her displays are distinct with their clean, strong lines and plenty of breathing space.
Her use of symmetry and balance is simply perfect!
Liz has a passion for textiles, so it’s no surprise that she brought back a large selection of stunning antique linen sheets and fabrics.
And this red bench was one of my absolute favorite pieces – no, I was not able to bring it home but I sure wish I could have!
We spent over half an hour soaking in every inch of this gorgeous space while waiting for 10 o’clock to roll around. Once it was time to enter the “French” side of the studio, I was in such a calm and relaxed head space, I took my sweet time making my way through the space… I got completely side tracked by a collection of stunning pine doors and wanted to pick just the right one for our living room that I skipped my usual “once-quick-all-around-to-grab-the-must-haves.”
While I did score just the right door, I missed out on a few beauties I had lusted after ever since spotting them on Instagram. Oh, well, that’s how it goes… Oh, and in case you’re wondering what all those bright yellow stickers are, those were tags from the shipping company – Liz unloaded, priced and set up her show in a mere three days (crazy!) so no time to remove all those tags.
I completely forgot to take photos at the French studio and also didn’t think of it once we made our way over to Petit & Olson. It wasn’t until I returned to Liz’s studio to pick up my wares that I realized oh, I have no photos of the French side! I was able to snap a few quick shots but they don’t do the space justice… it was stunning, filled with original metal Tolix chairs, a giant side board in the most gorgeous shade of grey, a huge plate rack, bottle racks, baskets, chairs, even a stunning carved pine bed!
Rumor has it this is only the first container sale, with more to come in 2016 – can’t wait to see what the next sale brings! In the meantime, you can follow Liz on Instagram and Facebook and don’t forget to check out Petit & Olson, too!
